Water ... Yes, we are an
island and yes, we are surrounded by water. If mankind has thought of a water sport, then
it is bound to be available here. Parasailing above the water, skiing on the water and
swimming in the water name just a few. On the Atlantic side, Key West is protected by
America's only living coral reef. You can see it up close by diving or snorkeling or view
it from a glass bottom boat. In addition to the coral, there are many beautiful,
fascinating and sometimes scary creatures in the sea. If fishing is your thing, Key West
is the place to be. There is world class sport fishing here.
Audubon House ... Audubon, the famous
naturalist painter, completed some of his works at this house and some are on display.
Today, one can tour the house and the lovely tropical gardens.
Southernmost Point in the Continental United States ... The marker pictured is
located only 6 blocks from the Blue Parrot Inn and only 90 miles from Cuba. It is a
popular spot for making photo memories.
Margaritaville ... It is one of the attractions that you will most likely want to
visit while staying at the Blue Parrot. For those of you who may not know, Margaritaville is a
very famous restaurant and club owned by the musician, Jimmy Buffet. Many of Jimmy's fans
belong to an environmentally oriented group and refer to each other as
"Parrotheads." Many of these fans choose to "nest" at the Blue Parrot.

Hemingway House ... The former home of the author, Ernest Hemingway, is located 3
blocks from the Blue Parrot. This beautiful house is now a museum and open to the public.
Several of his most widely read novels were written here. For our money, the main
attractions are the 50+ cats who lollygag just about everywhere. Many are polydactyl and
descendants of Hemingway's own cats.
Key West Lighthouse ... This old
structure provides one of the best views of our little island. It is located across the
street from the Hemingway House.
Mallory Square ... Participate in our nightly sunset celebration. This is a
"must do" and a truly unique Key West experience. Our world-renowned sunsets are
glorious and worthy of the applause they receive. So is Dominique. He performs miracles
nightly with his cats and even has one who jumps through a flaming hoooooooop! There are
many other zany characters who help to ease the sun into the Gulf of Mexico.
Old Town ... The Blue Parrot is centrally located in the historic district.
Evening walks down our back streets, alleys and lanes will reward you with a Key West that
many visitors miss entirely. There are architectural treasures, night blooming plants and
a myriad of little curiosities that would go unnoticed while the sun is out of the water.
Romance and enchantment await you.
The above are only a few of the attractions
that are within easy walking distance of the Blue Parrot. Duval Street, just 2 blocks
away, is a trip in and of itself especially if you are inclined to try the "Duval
Crawl". There is a wide variety of bars and clubs to suit every taste and attitude.
Fine restaurants abound and most have a tropical flavor. While you are here, don't miss
the many fine galleries. Duval has been called "the longest street in the world"
as it stretches from the Atlantic Ocean to the Gulf of Mexico. The characters pictured
below were seen roaming the street during Fantasy Fest which is staged in late October.
Our island is rich in history. It was once
Florida's largest city (hard to believe) and America's wealthiest city. Key West was
mainly settled by people from New England, from the Bahamas and from Cuba. Today, there is
a tremendous diversity of people, attitudes and orientations. Come, stay with us a while,
and experience the relaxation and freedom that can come only with well-seasoned acceptance
of differences. Key West and the Blue Parrot are fun places. They are also mature places
where good times are always tempered with respect and consideration. You will leave with a
new love in your heart and a longing to return.
